Advisor (TAA) Prior to my marriage to a WA ARNG Soldier in 1999. I had no idea what it meant to be a military family. I received a fast education, immediately started volunteering for Family Programs. In 2003, I began full time work with Family
Programs and in 2004, ran the first ever Veterans Youth Program for Washington State. I
was coordinator for Operation Purple Camp that hosted 56 middle school kids for 5 days.
The only qualification needed is that they had to have a parent or sibling in theatre
(deployed). This was an incredible time for me. In May 2007, I was in a temporary position at Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, which lead to the beginning of the Transition Assistance Advisor for the Guard. Transition Assistance Advisor (TAA)

VA Puget Sound Site 2007, Community Reintegration Services Community Reintegration Services is expanding. Beginning 7/30/2007 we will be launching an expansion of the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) program into Seattle . We will be providing return to work services for those veterans who have been experiencing employment difficulties. Services could include vocational assessment and counseling, placement in short term paid work placements within the facility or in the community, and work adjustment and job search training through groups and classes and a partnership with State of Washington Work Source . As part of the expansion of Community Reintegration Services and the Compensated Work Therapy program, we have a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor placed directly in the Polytrauma Unit in Seattle . The VRC sits as a member of the interdisciplinary team, and provides comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services to patients served through the Polytrauma Unit. These services include assessment, vocational counseling, connection with services, and vocational planning. At the American Lake campus, we have now reopened the Work and Independent Living Skills program (WILS). This is a psychosocial rehabilitation program which works on an individualized basis with persons with severe disabilities to increase independence through groups and classes. The program assists in increasing function in the areas of leisure skills, self care skills, work skills, and personal growth. Community Reintegration Services continues to provide services under the Supported Employment program to those individuals with severe disabilities such as Serious Mental Illness, Spinal Cord Injury or Traumatic Brain Injury. Patients are served at both American Lake and Seattle . The SE program utilizes the Evidence Based Recovery Model to establish a comprehensive plan of services to assist the most severely disabled patients to become involved in competitive employment. Referrals for these programs must come through a Primary Care Provider. The mission of the WDVA Women Veterans Advisory Committee shall be to ensure that

women veterans have equitable access to federal and state veterans' services and benefits.

So what does WDVA do?
WDVA is perhaps most well-known for administering three State Veterans Homes. Two are located in Western Washington (Orting and Retsil) and one in Spokane.
The agency also provides service and outreach to veterans and their families throughout the state. Central to our Vision Statement is, ‘Serving as an Advocate for all VA entitlements,’. This is also a key difference between the State and Federal VA.
WDVA serves as an Advocate, helping veterans and families access their benefits. The Federal VA is the Adjudicator (or decision-maker) deciding who will receive benefits and how much or at what level that benefit will be.
In addition to serving as a veteran’s advocate, WDVA has developed diverse programs to meet the needs of our state’s 670,000 veterans. Several of the programs involve partnering with local, state and federal agencies, while others are unique to WDVA and are available because ofthe knowledge, passion and persistence of staff personal.

General Description
The VONAPP (Veterans On Line Applications) website is an official U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) website, that enables veterans to apply for benefits using the Internet. U.S. military veterans and some service members within six months of separation or retirement can apply for compensation, pension, and vocational rehabilitation benefits.
U.S. military veterans, service members with two years of service, and members of the Selected Reserve can apply for education benefits.
VONAPP also has a link to VA Form 10-10EZ, Application for Health Benefits.
How is using this site different from visiting a VA office?
When you use this site to complete and send an application to the VA, your application will be sent directly to the VA office with jurisdiction over your application. Processing will begin and you will receive an automated e-mail response from the VA office letting you know that your application has been received.
It can be important for you to submit your claim as soon as you can if it is near the end of a month, whether by regular mail or using VONAPP, to ensure we receive it before the first of the next month. In some cases, your entitlement is based on the date we receive your claim in the VA. You might lose a month of benefits if we find you eligible, but you wait until the following month to submit your claim.
When you successfully submit your electronic application using VONAPP, the time and date is stamped on your application. The time and date is the Eastern Standard Time (EST) at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where it is electronically received by the VA regardless of your geographic location around the world.

What
Is Survivors' & Dependents' Educational Assistance?
Survivors' & Dependents' Educational Assistance is an education benefit for eligible spouses and children of certain veterans. Eligible persons can receive up to 45 months of full-time or equivalent benefits for: · College, Business, Technical or Vocational Courses, High School Diploma or GED, Independent Study or Distance Learning courses · Correspondence Courses (Spouses Only), Apprenticeship/On-the-Job Training · Remedial, Deficiency, and Refresher Training (in some cases) · The cost of tests for licenses or certifications needed to get, keep, or advance in a job Note: VA
does not approve schools or programs for benefits. Each
individual state approves schools and courses. To
find out if your school or program is approved for VA educational benefits, contact your
school’s VA Certifying Official, or call VA at the toll-free number below. Who Is Eligible?To be an eligible for Survivors’ & Dependents’ Education Assistance you must be the son, daughter, or spouse of: · a veteran who died, or is permanently and totally disabled, as the result of a service-connected disability. The disability must arise out of active service in the Armed Forces. · a veteran who died from any cause while such service-connected disability was in existence. · a service member missing in action or captured in the line of duty by a hostile force. · a service member forcibly detained or interned in the line of duty by a foreign government or power. How Long Is the Period During Which This Benefit May Be Used?Spouses and surviving spouses have 10 years from the date VA establishes eligibility to use the benefit. Surviving spouses of veterans who died while on active duty have 20 years from the date of the veteran’s death to use the benefit. (benefits can’t be paid before December 10, 2004 for anyone whose 10 year period ended prior to that date). Children may use the benefit while they are between the ages of 18 and 26. Note: These time limits can be extended under certain
circumstances. For details, call the toll-free
number or visit the web site shown below. How Much Does VA Pay?The amount VA pays is based on the type of training program and training time (i.e. full-time, half-time, etc). Benefits are paid monthly and in arrears. For example effective October 1, 2006, VA pays $860 a month for full-time training for a full month at a college or university. If attendance is less than a month or less than full-time, payments are reduced proportionately. Different payment rates can be found on our web site How Can You Apply?After
finding a program approved for VA training, complete VA Form 22-5490, Application for
Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance, and submit it to the VA regional
office that serves the state where you will train. You

Local Veteran Employment Representative
Purpose and Type of ServicesStaff work in WorkSource Centers throughout the state and provide veterans with employment services including intake, assessment, testing, job-search assistance, job referrals and placement. The LVER representatives maintain regular contact with employers, labor unions, training programs, and veterans' organizations in order to better advise veterans of opportunities for employment and training.

Click here to download.) Program HistoryThe LVER Program was first authorized under the original GI Bill, the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944. Since then, legislation has been enacted to increase benefits and entitlements for veterans. ESD receives annual grants from DOL to fund LVER positions.
