Gore-Tex®

A patented waterproof composite membrane of two unique polymers. The first polymer is a film containing 9 billion pores per square inch. Each pore is 20,000 times smaller than a rain drop, but 700 times larger than a molecule of water. It is completely impervious to rain, snow, and sleet and allows perspiration vapor to pass through. The second polymer allows moisture vapor to pass through, but it blocks contamination from body oils, cosmetics, saltwater, and insect repellents that could otherwise affect waterproofness. When used as intended, you can expect it to be waterproof, very breathable, and windproof even when sitting or kneeling on a wet surface.
